I had the honor of being a photographer at the “Fashion Awareness Show” held on the University of Oklahoma Campus on Feb. 18th. This Fashion Show was a part of Mya's Anti Bullying Project which was founded and is run by a very impressive 15 year old young lady.
Mya is a very outspoken and tenacious supporter of Anti-Bullying Awareness. This show was the 3rd
fashion show she has organized. The
shows primary goal was to raise money and awareness against bullying using the
Fashion Industry as a platform to deliver this message. The show truly lived up to its goal of
providing a night of fun, fashion, and supporting a great cause.
Designers at the show included Liz Stylez Haute Couture,
Belle Aime Couture Design School, The Crump Effect, House of A&W Designer Fashions, Made to Order Designs, and Sew Girly Girls. Their designs were worn by both experienced
and emerging runway models. In addition
to the fashion, the show, which was hosted by brothers Scott and Jeff Gaffen, offered musical entertainment from Elisheba
Choppala and Madeline Hellwig, Reva Loving and Nikki Jenkins spoke about their
experiences with bullying and Aspen Swaim performed an interpretive dance.
The show was held in a very intimate environment which gave
the entire audience a close up view of the fashions. The one minor downfall with this was that it
only allowed a very small area for photographers. I made a very intentional decision to
position myself in an entirely different location. My hope is that my images will provide a much
different perspective of the runway.
Images from this show will be available for download on my
